Srinagar: The world-famous Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden was officially opened to the public on Tuesday, marking the arrival of spring in the Kashmir Valley. The garden was inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah amid much enthusiasm and anticipation from locals and tourists alike.
Nestled at the foothills of the Zabarwan range overlooking the iconic Dal Lake, the garden has been transformed into a vibrant canvas of colours, with lakhs of tulips in full bloom. Known as Asia’s largest tulip garden, it is expected to attract a large number of visitors in the coming weeks, giving a major boost to the region’s tourism sector.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the opening of the tulip garden not only symbolizes the onset of spring but also reflects the improving tourism scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed hope that this season would witness a significant rise in tourist footfall, benefiting local businesses and livelihoods.
Authorities have made elaborate arrangements to manage the expected rush of visitors, including better transport facilities, security measures, and maintenance of the garden premises. Floriculture officials said that this year, several new varieties of tulips have been added to enhance the beauty and appeal of the garden.
Every year, the opening of the tulip garden serves as a major attraction and sets the tone for the summer tourism season in Kashmir Valley. With pleasant weather and blooming flowers, Srinagar is once again ready to welcome visitors from across the country and abroad.
