Far away from the rush of city life, surrounded by towering mountains and untouched landscapes, Gurez Valley offers a journey that goes far beyond sightseeing.
Here, breathtaking nature meets centuries-old traditions, the warmth of local people blends with modern tourism initiatives, and the beautiful Shina language continues to echo through the valley.

Our journey through Gurez was not simply a visit to a tourist destination—it was an opportunity to experience the valley’s history, culture, hospitality and natural beauty.
Habba Khatoon: The Iconic Face of Gurez
The journey began amid the spectacular mountain scenery of Gurez.

Surrounded by majestic peaks, the valley presents a landscape that is peaceful, dramatic and unforgettable. Among its most iconic landmarks is Habba Khatoon Peak, standing proudly amidst the surrounding mountains.
The flowing waters, green surroundings and towering peaks create a picture-perfect setting that attracts visitors from different parts of the country.

Habba Khatoon is not merely a mountain—it has become one of the enduring symbols of Gurez and its natural beauty.
Discovering the Heritage of Gurez
A visit to the Shina Cultural Centre offers a completely different perspective of the valley.
Stepping inside the centre feels like stepping back into another era. Traditional household objects, old-style houses, clothing, agricultural produce and everyday tools provide an insight into how generations of people lived in this mountainous region.

Visitors can explore displays featuring local products such as Rajma, different varieties of dal, potatoes and other traditional produce.
Traditional equipment, including the charkha, laalten, axes and other household and working tools, further illustrates the simplicity and self-sufficient lifestyle of earlier generations.
The centre plays an important role in preserving the memories, traditions and cultural identity of the people of Gurez.
A Story of Gurez in the Shina Language
Another highlight of the journey was experiencing the Gurez documentary and laser-light-and-sound presentation organised by the Indian Army.

Through visuals, narration and technology, the presentation takes visitors through the history, culture and natural beauty of Gurez.
What makes the experience particularly distinctive is its connection with the Shina language, allowing the story of the valley to be presented through the language deeply connected with its cultural identity.
It is not simply a visual show—it is an experience that connects the past with the present.

Tulail Valley: Beauty Beyond Words
The journey then continued towards Tulail Valley, where the landscape becomes even more dramatic.
Towering mountains, open skies, pristine surroundings and the peaceful atmosphere make Tulail one of the most captivating parts of the Gurez region.
Amid this remote landscape, the Tulail Coffee House, an initiative presented by the Indian Army, offers travellers a warm place to pause and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Sitting with a hot cup of coffee while surrounded by the magnificent mountains of Tulail is an experience that is difficult to describe in words.

Coffee, Mountains and the Spirit of Gurez
The growing presence of small cafés and coffee spots has added another dimension to tourism in the valley.
Near “I Love Gurez” attraction, visitors can enjoy coffee while taking in the surrounding mountain scenery.
These places are not only about refreshments. They give travellers a chance to slow down, enjoy the landscape, interact with the surroundings and create memories.
In Gurez, even a simple cup of coffee can become part of the travel experience.
The Voice of Shina: A Visit to Gurez Radio Station

One of the most memorable moments of the journey was a visit to the Shina-Gilgit Radio Station in Gurez.

The station provides a platform where the beauty and richness of the Shina language can be heard through radio programming.
RJ Wahida and RJ Rohii showcased the melody and character of Shina through their engaging presentation, while Urdu translations helped connect the conversation with a wider audience.
Their voices reflected something much larger than a radio programme—the living cultural identity of a community and the importance of preserving its language for future generations.
Gurez: Where Every Experience Tells a Story
Gurez Valley cannot be defined only by its mountains.

Its real beauty lies in the combination of nature, heritage, culture, language, history and hospitality.

From the legendary Habba Khatoon to the spectacular landscapes of Tulail, from the traditional displays at the Shina Cultural Centre to the Army-supported cafés and the laser-light-and-sound presentation, every stop reveals another side of this remarkable valley.
And when the voices of Shina presenters fill the air, the journey becomes even more meaningful.
Gurez is a place where the mountains speak through their silence, culture survives through traditions, and the Shina language carries the stories of generations.

Gurez is not just a destination on the map.
It is a story waiting to be experienced.
A journey waiting to be remembered.
A valley waiting to be cherished. 🇮🇳❤️
